Chawla’s Chicken Indian Restaurants – The Founder’s Story

Born in UP, brought up in Punjab - this sums up the roots of Chawla's Chicken. It all started one day at Haldwani in the Nainital District when the late S. Attar Singh Chawla was trying to improve upon one of his favorites recipes in the restaurants when he ended up with “The One”, which was to become the world famous signature dish, Chawla's Cream Chicken.

It is quite different in color and taste than ordinary cream chicken as red chilies and vegetable oils are not used, instead it is cooked in milk and cream and delicately flavored with black pepper and green cardamom and is served with bread and mint chutney. Chawla’s Cream Chicken is therefore very light on the stomach, tasty and easy to digest.

The exotic flavors of Chawla’s cuisine have been tantalizing Indian palate now for several generations and Chawla chicken is one of the biggest food chain in India specializing in Indian cuisine. Chawla chicken has been in this business since 1960 and has served millions of food lovers in these years that can vouch for its authenticity and great taste. Chawla Chicken has 86 outlets in India; and has now started opening outlets overseas, such as Chawla’s Chicken in Surrey BC, run by Surrey’s very own Curry King, Karan – with the help of his family and team.

The Curry King – Karan

A local resident of Surrey BC, Karan graduated from Queen Elizabeth High School before going on to post-secondary education. At age 20, Karan started his first business – which was a learning process – before taking on the exciting venture of opening a Chawla Chicken Franchise in the heart of Surrey BC in April 2012.

Owning & running an authentic Indian restaurant had always been an ambition of Karan’s, especially as he grew up with his Mom as a professional chef, and with his older and younger brothers in the restaurant business too. He chose to open a Chawla’s Chicken because being a household name in India, it serves totally authentic Indian cuisine, and the spices used in the restaurant are all centrally sourced to ensure a consistency of quality and give their mouth-watering Indian dishes a blend of unique flavours.

Karan is ambitious, hence the “Curry King” persona. Chawla’s Surrey is fully equipped with a genuine Tandoor oven allowing the cooking of fresh dishes and naan on the premises – or for outside catering, weddings, birthdays or business functions, Chawla’s Indian Restaurant and Take-out Surrey even have a full mobile kitchen that can both entertain and delight the taste buds of invited guests for every organised function.
